  • The Melkite Charitable Foundation is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation and is the charitable arm of the Melkite Catholic Eparchy of Australia, New Zealand, and All Oceania.

    For 25 years we have worked with people in our community of all cultures and religions who need short term financial relief, settlement assistance, refugee advocacy, aged care and social services support, education, and employment.

    The Melkite Charitable Foundation’s values are justice, everyone deserves to be treated with dignity; advocacy, we value diversity and support our community members who are eager to contribute to their new home and integrity, to work professionally and be, accountable and transparent in everything we do.

    Our work is made possible through the support of our grant providers, partners and sponsors, who include leading community-based organisations and service providers, Eastern Christian welfare agencies, Social Services agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, local Catholic schools, TAFE NSW, migrant resource centres, food rescue organisations, the Australian Government and generous Australians and local businesses who donate.

  • The Melkite Charitable Foundation works to assist people in our local community who need our care, particularly refugees, humanitarian entrants and other vulnerable migrants who have made Australia their home, because of war, disaster, and fear in their country of origin. We work to provide—
    1. Material wellbeing to households experiencing short-term financial hardship, crisis, or emergency.
    2. A smooth settlement journey, in the first five years, via government liaison, refugee advocacy and collaboration.
    3. Skill courses that open pathways to education and employment.

    Where we are able, we will initiate emergency Appeals to directly support overseas families experiencing war, disasters, and displacement.

  • The Melkite Charitable Foundation aims to ensure that donations support refugees, humanitarian entrants, vulnerable migrants and anyone in our local community who needs short-term financial assistance, resettlement, integration, education, and access to government and aged care services.

  • Yes, The Melkite Charitable Foundation is endorsed as a deductible gift recipient. Your gift of $2 or more is tax deductible.

  • No, you won't.

  • Yes. We aim to assist those in our community who are experiencing short-term financial hardship, crisis, or emergency; particularly refugees, humanitarian entrants and other vulnerable migrants.

  • Yes. The Melkite Charitable Foundation is an approved NSW Government Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) scheme provider. Our coordinator will assess your eligibility and if you meet the EAPA requirements will assist you apply for the energy voucher(s). Call us and make an appointment so we can help.

  • Yes. Sydney Water offers a Payment Assistance Scheme (PAS) which provides emergency relief if you are struggling to pay your water bill. The Melkite Charitable Foundation is an accredited PAS agency with Sydney Water. Call us and make an appointment so we can help.

  • Yes, when funding is available. Currently there is no funding available for new service providers. The NSW Government Family & Community Services administers the NSW Food Program which supports food security. When NSW Government funding is available, the Melkite Charitable Foundation is an eligible service provider and will again register for the Food Program.

  • No. However, we can refer you to other community-based organisations who may be able to provide rent assistance vouchers. Otherwise, we can refer you to the Australian Government Department of Social Services who will assess your eligibility for payments, such as rent assistance, concessions, and support.

  • Yes. Please phone our office and speak to our coordinator who will register you.

  • No, we provide a range of free adult education and skill training courses, programs and social activities.

  • The Melkite Charitable Foundation office is open Monday – Friday 9:00am to 2:30pm.
